RMHRI on Colorado & Company
Jason Sperling, MD, FACS, the medical director of cardiovascular services for The Rocky Mountain Heart Rhythm Institute, explains how HealthONE’s Denver hospitals are on the cutting edge of treatment options for atrial fibrillation. The most common type of arrhythmia, atrial fibrillation causes the heart to beat significantly faster than normal, increasing the chances of blood pooling and clotting. In serious cases, atrial fibrillation can even cause strokes.
Historically, atrial fibrillation has been treated by either medication or cryoballoon ablation. These treatments are not necessarily 100 percent effective if the patient is suffering from persistent atrial fibrillation. Our cardiothoracic surgeons and electrophysiologists at Rocky Mountain Heart Rhythm Institute, spearheaded by Dr. Sperling, are the only group west of Texas equipped to perform a convergent procedure.
