Englewood, CO - HealthONE/HCA's Swedish Medical Center surgeons, nurses and friends gathered to celebrate the return of a very special patient this week. Seven months ago, Sami Bayless, a horseback riding champion from the small town of Lockwood, Missouri, was involved in a severe car accident on her way to work. At just 17 years old, Sami was left with extensive injuries, including vertebrae fractures, spinal cord damage and a life-threatening wound to her leg.
The multidisciplinary team of surgeons and nurses at Swedish fought, along with Sami, to save her life and her leg. Just seven months later, Sami returned to the hospital to walk for her surgeons and thank them for everything they did.
Swedish serves as the region's neurotrauma and orthopedic trauma provider and is the south Denver metro area's only level I trauma facility with a dedicated burn and reconstructive center.
