North Suburban Medical Center has opened a second state-of-the-art cardiac catheterization lab at the hospital in Thornton, Colorado.

This cath lab is part of a cardiovascular expansion project to enhance cardiovascular services for the community and increase the number of patients that can be treated at the hospital.

Thousands of diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures are performed at North Suburban each year and volume continues to grow.

“We know that our community need for cardiovascular services continues to grow, and in response to that need, we decided to begin construction on a second cath lab more than a year ago,” said Mike Hansen, Chief Nursing Officer at North Suburban Medical Center. “This new cath lab provides our cardiovascular experts with technology to perform leading edge diagnostic and interventional procedures for our patients in our emergency department and those who are seeing a cardiologist for care as well.”

In addition to being a brand new suite, the second cath lab features bi-plane technology which provides highly detailed photos of a patient’s circulatory system, the brain and the brain’s blood vessels simultaneously from two angles. Real-time images display instantly on a monitor so the physician can rotate images to view vessels from all angles.
