When you least expect it, is when some of life's biggest surprises and miracles occur.

Dan Carrasco was visiting his doctor to discuss recent bouts of dizziness and breathlessness. His doctor tested his heart and discovered he had a heart murmur. He was then diagnosed with arterial stenosis, and told he would eventually need heart surgery.

A few months later, he was back at the doctor for a knee scope and in preparation for back surgery.

He was given a stress test and heart catheterization, which lead to the discovery that he needed valve replacement surgery. His valve had shrunk from .9 cm to .8 cm.

Two months later Dan had the surgery and has been on the upswing ever since. His energy levels have increased as has his awareness of his body and overall health. He credits much of his recovery to the cardiovascular rehab team that supports and guides him every step of the way.

"It was not until I almost lost my life that I realized how critical it is we take care of our health every day. If I had died, it would not have only ended my ability to achieve my goals on this earth, but it would have significantly affected the quality of life for my beloved wife and my children and grandchildren. That is not okay. The responsibility I have to myself and my entire family is very clear to me now."

Dan takes his health very seriously. He lost 25 pounds, monitors his sodium intake and watches his diet closely.  His goal is to live as healthy as he can so that he can spend his time creating memories with his family and supporting them in every way.
