Visitor policy
The Medical Center of Aurora is taking proactive measures to help ensure the health and safety of patients, caregivers, colleagues and our communities.
Information for visitors
Our goal is to provide a safe, quiet, healing environment for our patients so that they can recover from their illness or injury.
Hospital hours
The Main Entrance is open daily from 5:00am to 8:00pm.
After hours (8:00pm to 5:00am), please enter the hospital through the Emergency Department entrance.
Visiting hours
11am to 8:30pm for most patient areas.
Parents may visit their children in the Pediatrics unit at any time, and siblings are welcome on the Labor and Delivery unit. Please check with your nurse for specific visiting policies on a given floor.
Silent Hospitals Help Healing
We observe quiet hours daily from 2:00pm to 4:00pm. Thank you for helping us create a healing environment.
Intensive Care Unit (ICU) visitor guidelines
- Visitation hours are 24 hours, with the exception of 7:00am to 8:00am and 7:00pm to 8:00pm
- Visitors are limited to two at a time
- One visitor may stay overnight if over age 18
- Visitors staying in the room must wear shoes or slippers at all times.
- Children are welcome to visit. Please limit their visits to 15-20 minutes. An adult must supervise children at all times, both in the patient’s room and in the waiting room. Please do not allow them to crawl on the floor. Children visiting patients in isolation must be 12 years of age or older.
- No latex balloons are permitted. No fresh flowers or plants are permitted in our ICU rooms as they can carry fungus. We encourage cards, pictures and music.
- Please use the hand sanitizer located either outside or immediately inside the patient’s room every time you enter and exit the room.
For the safety and comfort of all of our patients
- Visitors to the critical care unit are limited to immediate family members only.
- Visitors should leave the room promptly when treatment is to be given or when asked to do so by a nurse or physician.
- Please wash your hands upon entering and leaving the patient's room for your health, as well as the health of our patients.
- Visitors must not enter a patient's room if they have a cold or other potentially contagious ailment.
- Visitors should not enter a patient's room when a "No Visitors" or "Isolation" sign is posted on the door. Some areas require gowns and/or masks upon entering the room. Please check with a nurse if you are unsure.
- All visitors must wear shirts and shoes while at any of The Medical Center of Aurora campuses.
- An adult must accompany all young visitors at all times.
- Our patients are healing and need to rest. Please keep voices low in both the patient rooms and waiting areas. Ensure your children are supervised at all times.
Additional information
- If your loved one needs to be placed in isolation, you will be required to wear isolation attire every time you enter the room. This may include a gown, gloves and mask. Your nurse will instruct you in this matter
- To ensure infection control and patient safety, only staff may use the kitchen. Please use the call light to let us know of any needs.
- At times you may be asked to leave the room for procedures or treatments. If so, please return to the waiting room. No waiting is permitted directly outside the patient rooms or at the nurses’ station. This is to protect patient privacy. The staff will call you when they have completed care and you may return to the room.
- Maintain patient privacy by staying in the room with your family member while visiting. If you would like to speak with the nurse or physician, or if you need assistance, please use the call light to inform the nurse.
- Please limit cell phone use in order to limit distractions in the patient care area.
- Restrooms are located outside the ICU. Do not use the restrooms in the patient’s room for your protection and sanitation.
- There is no overnight sleeping in the waiting area and no sleeping on the floor
- Many families share the waiting room. Please limit the number of family members at any time in this area and help keep a peaceful, clean environment.

La Unidad de Terapia Intensiva

Pautas generales
- Puede haber 2 visitantes al mismo tiempo.
- Un miembro de la familia puede quedarse toda la noche con el paciente. Deben tener 18 años o más.
- Los visitantes que se queden en la habitación deben usar zapatos o sandalias en todo momento.
- Los niños pueden venir de visita. Limite sus visitas a un tiempo de 15 a 20 minutos. Un adulto debe supervisar a los niños en todo momento, tanto en la habitación del paciente como en la sala de espera. No los deje gatear. Los niños que visiten a pacientes aislados deben tener 12 años o más.
- No se permiten globos de látex. No se permiten flores frescas ni plantas en nuestras habitaciones de la unidad de terapia intensiva pues pueden ser portadoras de hongos. Recomendamos traer tarjetas, fotos y música.
- Use el sanitizante para manos que se encuentra fuera o inmediatamente junto a la entrada de la habitación del paciente cada vez que entre y salga de la habitación.
Información adicional
- Si es necesario poner en aislamiento a su ser querido, se le pedirá que use ropa de aislamiento cada vez que entra a la habitación. Esto puede incluir bata, guantes y mascarilla. Su enfermera le dará instrucciones sobre esto.
- Para garantizar el control de infecciones y la seguridad del paciente, sólo el personal puede usar la cocina. Use la luz de llamada para avisarnos de cualquier necesidad.
- Habrá momentos en que se le pida salir de la habitación para practicar procedimientos o tratamientos. En ese caso, vuelva a la sala de espera. No se permite esperar directamente afuera de las habitaciones de los pacientes o en la estación de enfermeras. Esto es para proteger la privacidad del paciente. El personal le llamará cuando haya terminado el procedimiento y pueda volver a la habitación.
- Para mantener la privacidad de los pacientes, permanezca en la habitación con su familiar durante la visita. Si quiere hablar con la enfermera o el médico, o si necesita ayuda, use la luz de llamada para informar a la enfermera.
- Limite el uso del teléfono celular para reducir las distracciones en el área de atención a pacientes.
- Hay baños ubicados fuera de la unidad de terapia intensiva. Por su protección e higiene, no use los baños de la habitación del paciente.
- No se permite pasar la noche en el área de espera y tampoco se permite dormir en el suelo.
- Muchas familias comparten la sala de espera. En todo momento limite el número de familiares en esta área y ayude a conservar un ambiente calmado y limpio.
