Colorado friends celebrate National Donor Day after one donates kidney to the other

Three months ago, 34-year-old Kelsey Anderson donated one of her kidneys to her dear friend Colin Giglio at Presbyterian St. Luke's Medical Center in Denver.

What is also amazing is that Kelsey’s husband had just donated his kidney to a total stranger earlier in the year.

“It’s quite unique,” said Christine Opp, the living donor nurse coordinator at Presbyterian St. Luke’s. She said there is a significant need for living donors.

“There are over 120,000 people waiting on the national transplant list, and over 100,000 of those are people waiting for kidneys,” Opp said.
