According to the National Kidney Foundation, on average those requiring kidney transplants wait between 3 to 5 years for a match. In December 2021, the National Donate Life Living Donor Registry began to help reduce access barriers for prospective living donors. Later, the first living kidney donor transplant took place at an HCA Healthcare facility.
