Welcome from our Program Director
Thank you for your interest in our neurology residency!
Our program offers a unique experience compared to other neurology residencies as you will be working with the largest and most successful group of private practice neurologists in the state of Colorado.
The Swedish Medical Center Neurology Residency Program’s mission is to develop the next generation of physicians and physician leaders. As a part of HCA Healthcare, we are driven by a single mission: Above all else, we are committed to the care and improvement of human life.
This program is designed to offer residents a rewarding, educational environment where residents are provided individualized learning opportunities by faculty and staff who support and sustain one another throughout quality care delivery. Our faculty are committed to ensuring the residents' clinical experience and educational needs are fulfilled while expanding residents’ perspectives to be inclusive of cultures, values, and ideals.
The HealthONE Neurology Residency Program is built upon an extremely firm foundation of well-trained, successful private practice neurologists practicing both in and around one of the most successful neuroscience centers in the Rocky Mountain region, Swedish Medical Center.
The inpatient neuro-hospitalists and stroke physicians in conjunction with HealthONE’s Swedish Medical Center have helped provide care to a host of patients with varying acute neurological conditions.
Both the neurologists and Swedish Medical Center have set the bar for some of the fastest, if not the fastest, door-to-needle times in the country and quite possibly the world which ultimately translates into improved outcomes in patients presenting with acute ischemic stroke.
In addition, the inpatient neurology service receives greater than 750 neurology transfers each year (and growing) from outside hospitals for ischemic stroke, intra-parenchymal hemorrhage, subarachnoid hemorrhage, status epilepticus, Guillain-Barre syndrome, myasthenic crisis, CNS infections, CNS tumors, and autoimmune encephalitides.
Their focus, and thus the backbone of this residency, is evidence-based medicine rooted in real-world applications. They are widely recognized and well-respected in the neurosciences community.
The HealthONE Neurology Residency Program also boasts an exceptional outpatient neurology experience with opportunities and exposure to various subspecialties of neurology including:
- Movement disorders
- Demyelinating diseases
- Neuromuscular diseases
- Headache clinic
- General and pediatric neurology
With multiple clinics located across the Denver Metro region, the outpatient neurology service has become one of the most prestigious neurology practices in the local community and beyond lending itself to high volumes and an excellent place to train as a neurology resident.
Additionally, the program offers a diverse and robust didactic curriculum to help augment the clinical experience of the neurology resident. Didactic experiences include neurovascular conferences with world-class neuro-radiologists, journal club, research committee, peer review, case conference with intermittent expectation for resident teaching, ongoing lecture series (i.e. emergency neurologic series), grand rounds, and morning rounds.
Regardless of the neurology resident’s learning style or background, this neurology residency program will provide the neurologists of tomorrow with the education and clinical experiences they need to be successful.

Curriculum & Rotation Schedule
Our expertly crafted programs are designed to provide resident physicians with all the experiences and training necessary for professional success.
The purpose of the following conferences is to help augment the neurology resident’s clinical experience through ongoing didactic and collegial conversation pertaining to the matters of neurology and evidenced-based medicine in addition to other topics of interest such as the business of medicine, stress management, and financial management following residency, to name a few.
Neurovascular conferences take place every Tuesday morning at 7:30 a.m. in the Radiology Conference room in the Reading Room on the third floor at Swedish Medical Center.
This is an excellent opportunity to engage directly with world-class neuro-radiologists that are also the neuro-interventionalists at Swedish performing stroke thrombectomy, aneurysm and AVM embolization, and stenting of diseased vessels.
Journal Club is on the third Monday of the month from 4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. at Blue Sky Neurology Englewood office in “The Jensen Room.”
Research Committee occurs the second Monday of the month at 6:30 a.m. at Swedish Medical Center. The purpose is to discuss current ongoing research initiatives and potential opportunities for investigation.
Peer review occurs on the second Thursday of the month at 7:30 a.m. at Swedish Medical Center in the Ponderosa Room.
It's purpose is to confidentially review difficult or challenging cases in the neurosciences, to review evidence-based literature surrounding such cases, and to refine individual practitioner's medical decision-making through open, honest, and respectful feedback.
Case conferences are every Thursday from noon – 1 p.m. at the Blue Sky Neurology Englewood office in the “The Jensen Room.”
The resident in collaboration with the attending will present an interesting case from practice discussing everything from presentation to literature that supports their medical decision making.
The program's lecture series is every Tuesday from noon – 1 p.m. at the Blue Sky Neurology Englewood office in “The Jensen Room.”
Various didactic lectures ranging from basic science to topic focus such as isolating neuromuscular weakness, EEG/EMG, neurovascular anatomy, imaging modalities and the physics of such modalities, etc.
These are presentations arranged by Swedish Medical Center and vary on time/location at Swedish. Residents are encouraged to attend. Topics vary from lessons learned in malpractice suits to new and upcoming procedures/interventions.
Morning rounds occur daily and are rotation dependent on timing and location. The goal is to clearly and effectively communicate with the multidisciplinary team caring for a patient in the acute care setting.
Epilepsy Case Conference
The epilepsy case conference is on the fourth Tuesday of the month at 7:30 a.m. at Swedish Medical Center in the Ponderosa Room.
