Coordinated cancer care

Our expert oncology team walks alongside patients from screening and diagnosis to treatment through survivorship. Integral to this team are our oncology patient navigators. Once a patient receives a cancer diagnosis, the navigator's support begins. The navigator serves as a go-to resource for patients and their families. Patients benefit from the navigator's work to facilitate communication with the physicians, ensure testing is scheduled, help patients coordinate appointments, answer questions and provide access to support services.

Breast cancer

Screening

The early diagnosis of breast cancer is important to effective treatment. Our breast imaging center provides a comfortable and convenient location for mammograms and other diagnostic tests that find and stage cancer.

Treatment

With a positive diagnosis, our team of experts work together on your behalf to create an individualized treatment plan that may include surgery, chemotherapy, radiation and/or interventional oncology. Because we are a part of the global Sarah Cannon Cancer network, we have access to the latest clinical trials and advanced treatments.

Colorectal cancer

Screening

At Centennial Hospital, we want you to know that “45 is the new 50!” The American Cancer Society now recommends average-risk adults ages 45 years and older undergo regular colonoscopy screening. To help make this important screening more accessible to you, we have an open-access colonoscopy screening program for patients meeting the following criteria: age 45-75, weighing under 300 pounds and having no history of heart or lung disease. Simply call our nurse, complete a screening questionnaire and your appointment will be scheduled; no physician referral required. Call 303-699-3061 to speak to a nurse directly. Note: If you have significant history of poorly controlled diabetes, significant cardiac disease, severe breathing problems or kidney problems, you will need to see one of our physicians prior to scheduling your exam.

Treatment

Colorectal cancer often is slow growing, which can make it more treatable than other more aggressive forms of cancer. Once a diagnosis has been made, our team brings together experts from all disciplines to create an individualized treatment plan based on your specific needs. Treatment for colorectal cancer often includes surgery. Many procedures can be done using minimally invasive techniques, including robot-assisted surgery. These techniques often reduce hospital stay, speed healing and reduce scarring. Other components to a treatment plan may include cryosurgery, medications, and radiation therapy and/or radiofrequency ablation.

Lung cancer

Screening

Patients with early-stage lung cancer often do not experience any symptoms. However, finding cancer at this stage provides the best opportunity for treatment. Therefore, high-risk patients are encouraged to undergo regular screening exams each year. We use computed tomography (CT) scans to identify cancer in the lung. This noninvasive, painless test requires no fasting, no needles and no medication. We encourage high-risk patients to undergo regular, annual screening exams to provide the information necessary to find cancer early. Those at high-risk are between the ages of 55 and 77 and have smoked at least an average of one pack of cigarettes per day for 30 years (including those who still smoke and those who have quit within the past 15 years).

If you have been diagnosed with lung cancer, our team works together on your behalf to create a comprehensive treatment and survivorship plan. Treatment may include surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy. Our team will provide support, education and resources to you and your family throughout your journey.
