Volunteering at HCA HealthONE Presbyterian St. Luke's and HCA HealthONE Rocky Mountain Children's at Presbyterian St. Luke's

Volunteer opportunities

Volunteers brighten patients’ days and support nursing units.

Our volunteers come from every walk of life. They are teens exploring medical careers, young adults attending medical school, retired nurses, former patients, empty nesters and retirees who just want to give back. HCA HealthONE Presbyterian St. Luke's and HCA HealthONE Rocky Mountain Children's at Presbyterian St. Luke's offer a variety of rewarding experiences in healthcare. Visit our opportunity directory for a list of assignments for which we are actively recruiting volunteers.

Volunteer application process

Ready to volunteer? Here are a few more things to consider...

Our volunteers are a vital part of our patient care team, so we provide you the training and support needed to feel confident and succeed in your role. Consistency is key to making the most of your volunteer experience. We ask for a minimum commitment of 100 hours per year. Some serve on a weekly basis, while others complete their hours over the summer. Volunteers sign up online for open shifts, typically 3-4 hours in length, at times that best suit their schedule.

Understand the application process

To ensure patient safety, volunteers need to complete the following during the on-boarding process: Submit an adult or teen volunteer application, clear a background check, and provide proof of the following immunizations: COVID, varicella, MMR, Tdap, current TB skin test and Influenza. Please note that only individuals with social security numbers may volunteer.

Completing an online application is the first step to starting the volunteer process.

Hospital assignments and training

Based on preferences indicated during the application process, volunteers will receive confirmation of their hospital assignment at orientation. Training is a multi-step process that includes:

  • Volunteer orientation. Includes an overview of HealthONE, our hospitals, volunteer policies and “An Introduction to Nursing Units.” Orientation occurs on the first Saturday in February and first Saturday in June from 9:00am - 2:00pm.
  • Floor Orientation I. Tour a nursing unit, practice skills and learn how to provide patients with comfort care.
  • Floor Orientation II. Meet staff, shadow a nurse or patient care tech, and get started in your volunteer service. Don’t worry, we promise to provide you with a shift checklist and helpful coaching as you settle into your role.

Teen Program (ages 15 through high school seniors)

Teens make our hospital a brighter place and are welcome to volunteer in our Ronald McDonald Room or on our Peds unit (16+ years). To volunteer, teens must submit a copy of their social security card. Teens who have successfully completed 50 hours of service earn a shadow experience with a medical professional. Teens who have successfully completed 100 hours within one year of service, earn a presidential service “gold” award and are encouraged to apply for the Teen Leader role. Teen Leaders have an additional assignment choice, coach incoming teens, and receive a letter of recommendation from our CEO to help with the college application process.
