Critical care medicine
We know that no one gets better in the waiting room—which is why we've changed some things about ours. In our ER, 95 percent of our patients are taken directly to a treatment room and never sit in the waiting area.
We do this because our goal is to provide quick, expert care that responds to the needs of our patients. Our emergency physicians are available 24/7 to address your questions promptly and ensure your needs are met. Treating more than 90,000 patients annually, our ER provides:
- A panel of board-certified specialists
- Board-certified adult and pediatric emergency medicine physicians
- Experienced nurses with certified emergency nursing (CEN) credentials
- Three dedicated trauma rooms—one specifically engineered and equipped for children
Specialized emergency care
To ensure all of our patients receive the care that is right for them, we offer the following specialties at our ER:
Trauma care
As a Level I Trauma Center, our team provides comprehensive acute and critical care services to both our adult and pediatric patients. Our experienced personnel provide trauma education and contribute to the basic scientific research in the area of traumatic injury.
Neurological intensive care unit (neuro ICU)
Equipped with a dedicated 18-bed neurocritical care unit, our specialists use advanced diagnostic and monitoring techniques and technology. They identify critical problems and prevent or minimize permanent neurological damage. With standardized protocols and management guidelines, our team offers new hope to patients with:
- Brain tumors
- Encephalitis (infection of the brain)
- Meningitis (infection of the membrane around the brain or spinal cord)
- Ruptured aneurysm
- Spinal cord injury
- Stroke
- Seizures
- Traumatic brain injury (TBI)
Pediatric emergency services
Our emergency rooms across southern Denver work in partnership with the Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children to provide specialized medical care for patients 18 years old and younger.
Our pediatric specialists pride themselves on delivering compassionate care for every child who that comes to our facility. One of the ways we do this is through creating a comfortable environment for kids and their parents.
Pediatric features and amenities
Our main campus ER features five pediatric treatment rooms set apart from our adult rooms. All rooms are staffed by a pediatrician and an emergency-trained nurse and technician
Should your child need to be hospitalized, Swedish has a dedicated, 24-hour pediatric unit open seven days a week. Our pediatric unit accommodates 11 beds for children, and our pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) contains six beds for children in need of intensive care.
