Known for his high energy and passion towards life, CSU football coach, Ricky Santo, was recently sidelined when he was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Undergoing 12 rounds of chemotherapy, Ricky received the unfortunate news that the cancer came back and further treatment was needed.

He was referred to Dr. Peter McSweeney, the Director of Cell Therapeutics at Colorado Blood Cancer Institute (CBCI), a part of the Sarah Cannon Cancer Institute at HCA HealthONE Presbyterian St. Luke’s. Ricky’s treatment plan included further chemotherapy in addition to a stem cell transplant, a process where stem cells are removed from the patient’s blood, frozen and reintroduced after chemotherapy treatments to improve bone marrow growth. Ricky’s spirit, and dancing moves, stayed strong during his treatments and he attributes his bright outlook to his “family” at HCA HealthONE Presbyterian St. Luke’s.
