Midwifery

Midwives are professionals who aid in the processes of labor, delivery and postpartum care. Midwifery minimizes the level of medical intervention during pregnancy and delivery, though midwives can still be present during a hospital delivery.

What is a certified midwife?

A CNM is trained in both nursing and midwifery and can partner with you for a variety of women's healthcare needs, from primary care to maternity care.

Midwives act as your advocate and ally to empower you to play an active role in your health. Committed to developing a long-term relationship with you, midwives take the extra time to listen, understand your needs and educate and support you in your choices. This allows them, and the rest of your care team, to promote overall health and well-being for a happy and fulfilling future.

Midwifery care for pregnancy and childbirth

If you are pregnant or hope to become pregnant, midwives can care for you before, during and after your pregnancy, consulting with an obstetrician-gynecologist (OB/GYN) when necessary. The care you receive is completely up to you and can include unmedicated birth, medicinal assistance or anesthesia usage.

Midwives and home births

Many people believe that including a midwife in their birthing plan means they are expected to deliver their baby at home. Although this is certainly an option with many midwives, our midwives do not do home births. Instead, our midwives offer a unique blend of traditional medicine and complementary alternative therapies to support women through hospital-based labor and delivery experiences.
