Personalized neurological care

Neurological disorders can be difficult to live with and overcome, which is why we treat not just the condition, but each person as well. This means our care teams take time to understand each patient's unique concerns and any challenges they may be facing. Then, our patients will continue to get patient-centered care as they work with a team of specialists throughout their personalized treatment process and recovery.

Chiari-1 malformation and related disorders

Chiari-1 malformation (CM-1) is a condition in which the brain extends out from the base of the skull, along the spinal cord. At our Colorado Chiari Institute (CCI), we provide leading treatments for CM-1. CCI also offers advanced care for syringomyelia, tethered spinal cord and other related neurological conditions.

Epilepsy

Epilepsy is a neurological disorder, which can cause seizures, changes in behavior and, at times, loss of consciousness. When a patient has these symptoms, we use innovative neurological tests to identify the exact cause. We can then determine the most appropriate epilepsy treatment plan to control the patient's symptoms.

Stroke

A stroke occurs when blood flow is interrupted to or within the brain. This condition requires fast emergency care so blood flow can be restored and long-term damage can be minimized.

At HealthONE emergency rooms (ERs), we have specialized teams ready to treat patients with stroke symptoms 24/7. From diagnosis to rehabilitation, we provide comprehensive stroke care. In fact, many of our hospitals have received national accreditation for their stroke treatment programs.

Stroke Alert Program

The HealthONE Stroke Alert Program is a partnership between our facilities and local emergency medical services (EMS) providers. When EMS providers notify one of our facilities of a potential stroke patient, the stroke team assembles. This ensures they are ready to diagnose and treat the patient as quickly as possible upon the patient's arrival.

Advanced neurosurgery

Our neurosurgeons perform emergency surgery for patients with trauma to the head and/or spine. Additionally, we provide access to both traditional neurosurgery and interventional neuroradiology (INR) procedures. INR procedures, such as neuroendovascular surgery, offer less invasive methods for the treatment of many neurological conditions.

Minimally invasive spine surgery

We have also pioneered new spine surgery techniques, giving you more choices when it comes to spine care.

For example, we offer minimally invasive spine surgery techniques that were originally launched by neurosurgeons and neurologists at The Medical Center of Aurora. These techniques have since been implemented at each of our hospitals’ neurology departments.

Additionally, neurosurgeons at North Suburban Medical Center were the first in Colorado to perform an advanced spinal disc replacement surgery for patients with severe back pain.

Neuromodulation treatment

We provide neuromodulation treatment, which involves stimulating certain nerves to ease pain and neurological symptoms. We use this treatment to help reduce the symptoms of epilepsy, movement disorders, severe headaches, neck/back pain and other neurological conditions.

Neuro-oncology

Our cancer care and neurology programs come together to provide progressive techniques to diagnose and aggressively treat spinal cord and brain tumors. Our comprehensive neuro-oncology program includes:

  • Biological therapy
  • Chemotherapy
  • Neurosurgery
  • Radiation therapy
  • Stereotactic radiosurgery

Neurological and stroke rehabilitation

Rehabilitation is a key step in recovering from a neurological surgery, disease or injury, which is why we provide neurological rehabilitation.

Rehabilitation for stroke and other neurological conditions may involve a combination of physical, occupational and/or speech therapies. Our rehabilitation therapists create a personalized treatment plan to maximize function and independence for every patient.
