The staff of HCA HealthONE Swedish is proud to provide the highest quality care to our more than 200,000 patients per year — and that commitment and compassion extends to our colleagues as well.

Started in 2005 after hundreds of HCA Healthcare employees were affected Florida hurricanes, the Hope Fund is a colleague-run, colleague-supported charity that provides emergency funds for coworkers facing the unexpected storms of life due to illness, injury, natural disasters and other hardships. All HCA Healthcare colleagues can and are encouraged to contribute, and all colleagues are eligible to apply for assistance.

Jenny Woolley, supervisor of HCA HealthONE Swedish’s interventional radiology, has contributed to the Hope Fund for years. “I just thought it was just the right thing to do and a way for me to give back to the people I work with and maybe even those I don't know working for our corporation,” she said.

There was comfort knowing that safety net was there when she was diagnosed with breast cancer in March of 2022. Jenny underwent 16 rounds of chemotherapy. She kept working throughout her treatment but with all the appointments and medical bills, Jenny and her husband needed help. She said her only regret about applying was not doing it sooner, “I put it off for a few months thinking I just didn't have the time or the energy but it didn't take long at all. It was very easy, I just had to send some supporting documents and within the week I was already receiving notification that they were willing to provide me with a grant.”

Jenny is proud to share her story and be an ambassador for the Hope Fund, “I want people to know that I was a recipient because I want them to feel comfortable in their time of need, so they can step forward and ask for the help. I've been very grateful to those who have contributed. When I see the HCA Healthcare Hope Fund T-shirts in the hallway, I always go up to the person and thank them personally for donating.”

HCA HealthONE Swedish is proud to be the top contributor among the Continental Division and all HCA Healthcare large hospitals for the last two years. As of July 2023, HCA HealthONE Swedish colleagues have donated $76,325 with 51% percent of the staff making either a one-time contribution or biweekly payroll deductions. Twenty-four HCA HealthONE Swedish employees have received $62,550 in grants so far this year.

Across all of HCA Healthcare, the Hope Fund supported 4,400 colleagues in 2022, including Jenny Woolley’s family. For those still on the fence about supporting this impactful charity, she said every little bit helps, “It could be a dollar or two, whatever you can afford from your paycheck or a one-time donation. But just know when you do make a contribution, it's going to your work family. The support I received from my coworkers — I could have never made it through without them.”
