Discharge Hints for CPOE at The Medical Center of Aurora

General Hints:
- Discharge Time - Nursing is able to access the Discharge information in Meditech after the time specified. If a Discharge order is entered for 1600, RNs are able to access that information at 1601 since the ordered time of discharge is 1600.
- Discharge Process (Navigate The Discharge Process)
Meds:
- DEA Number Not Printing – This issue occurs with [bracketed] medications. Entering the medication as a New prescription allows the provider’s DEA number to print.
- Discharge Medication List:
- Dosages – Updates have been made so the med list now has the same dosages as the prescriptions.
- Duration – A request has been made to not have 30 days, 90 days, etc print on the home med list, so patients do not mistakenly stop the med at that point.
- Quantity – To enter a number other than the options listed, enter the desired quantity, do not press Enter, but instead click into any other field.
- Edit Meds After Finalized Done – Cancel the current med and re-enter as a new med with the corrections made.
- [Bracketed] Medications – The brackets indicate that there is an issue with the DC Med library. Corporate is aware of this and is working on updates. The best solution is to enter the medication as a New Medication rather than try to convert.
- Printing Prescriptions – Print Prescriptions, Do Not Print The Prescriptions

- Printer Busy – unplug the printer, then re-plug. It will reset the printer.
- Printer Paper - Pharmacy can change or replace the paper. At North Campus, the charge nurse has access to do this.
- Which printer? – IT has programmed the computers to choose the closest prescription printer.
- Paper prescriptions - You may use these if desired.
- [Bracketed meds] – These inconsistently convert to prescriptions. They may or may not need to be entered as a New medication. To save time, do not attempt to convert, but instead enter as a New medication.
- Prescriptions Not Printing – This problem exists with [Bracketed meds] which inconsistently convert to prescriptions. They may or may not need to be entered as a New Medication. To save time, do not attempt to convert, but instead enter as a New Medication.
Discharge Order:
- Discharge Pending – Added to allow providers to set discharge parameters. It is a discharge order and no further order is required.
