Which weight loss procedure is right for me?
Bariatric surgery is for people who are morbidly obese and have not been able to lose weight through traditional means or who have obesity-related medical conditions. Bariatric procedures can be either malabsorptive procedures that shorten the digestive tract, or restrictive procedures that reduce how much the stomach can hold, or a combination of both. The best weight loss procedure for you depends on several factors, including:
- Your personal preference
- Associated medical issues
- Medical necessity/opinion
Your bariatric surgeon and our team will work with you to help determine which procedure is best for you.
What should I look for in a bariatric surgery program?
We recommend that patients only receive surgery at an accredited facility in order to ensure their medical providers meet the strictest patient care and quality metrics. The American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) administers Center of Excellence (COE) programs throughout the world that recognize surgeons and healthcare facilities that provide safe, high-quality surgical care.
Our program promotes universal care quality, which is our number-one priority. We are one of the longest standing COEs in the United States and have been a bariatric COE since 2004.
What should I look for in a medical team?
Your medical team should show a track record of safe, effective care with excellent results. The HCA HealthONE Denver Center for Weight Loss and Bariatric Surgery and our surgeons have been designated a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence by the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS). To be designated as a Center of Excellence, the hospital and surgeons must participate in a rigorous evaluation process to ensure they have a comprehensive program and meet exacting standards for providing safe bariatric surgical care with excellent short- and long-term outcomes.
How do I find out if my insurance will pay for my weight loss surgery?
Call your insurance company to check if your plan will cover bariatric treatment and what procedures it will cover (for example, gastric bypass, adjustable gastric banding, etc.). You may also want to check with your employer to see if bariatric surgery is excluded from your insurance policy. If your insurance does not cover bariatric surgery, we offer self-pay pricing through our Fast Track program.
Our surgeons accept a variety of insurances including Medicare. For more information about using insurance for weight loss surgery, learn more about finance and insurance.
