Stroke care

Our hospital is proud to receive recognition from national organizations that demonstrate our commitment to patient care. For example, we received the Target Stroke Honor Roll Elite Award from the American Heart Association.

We are also certified by The Joint Commission and the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association as a Primary Stroke Center. This certification indicates that we provide rapid, lifesaving stroke care in our emergency room (ER) 24/7. Here, you receive prompt, coordinated stroke treatment from a team of neurologists and specially trained nurses and technicians.

Additionally, our ER staff works with area emergency medical services (EMS) providers to identify stroke patients before the ambulance arrives at the hospital. Because of this coordinated care, our staff is ready to quickly provide the appropriate intervention as soon as the patient's ambulance arrives.

Signs of a stroke

Fast medical intervention is critical when someone is having a stroke. Seek emergency medical care if you notice any of the following stroke symptoms:

  • Confusion, trouble speaking or difficulty understanding
  • Dizziness
  • Numbness or weakness in the face, arms or legs (especially on one side of the body)
  • Severe headache with no cause
  • Trouble seeing
  • Trouble walking or lack of balance/coordination

Neurological rehabilitation

After neurosurgery or a neurological event, such as a stroke, some patients require physical therapy and rehabilitation. In these cases, our certified therapists work with each patient to regain skills and maximize independence as quickly and safely as possible.
