Pediatric diabetes treatment
Depending on your child’s needs, diabetes treatment may include:
- Establishing a diet plan that may restrict or increase foods high in carbohydrates

- Taking insulin
Treating diabetes is not the same as curing the disease. With proper care, your child can be healthy as long as a normal regimen is established and you and your child maintain the proper blood sugar levels and diet.

Types of diabetes
Type 1 diabetes occurs when the body suffers from a lack of insulin produced by the pancreas. Type 2, gestational and prediabetes are all a result of an excess amount of sugar in the blood or high glucose levels.
Type 1 diabetes in children, also known as juvenile diabetes, affects about 193,000 children in the U.S., according to the American Diabetes Association. Children who have Type 1 diabetes are not able to produce insulin, which is a hormone the body needs so sugar can enter cells and create energy.
