Comprehensive rehabilitation services

Sky Ridge Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation provides specialized one-on-one attention and personal care to adults and children. We believe in an active, wellness approach to patient care. This means your therapists' role is to help patients help themselves with their recovery so they can continue to heal long after they have left the hospital. To do this, and to ensure our patients receive the individualized care that is right for them, we offer a variety of physical therapy and rehabilitation services.

Cancer rehabilitation

As part of our comprehensive approach to cancer care, our cancer exercise program provides a unique opportunity for patients to participate in a customized exercise program. The goal is to improve your quality of life by reducing fatigue and boosting your immune system during and after cancer treatment.

A therapist will work with you to develop a program to fit your needs. This program does require your physician's approval and is usually covered by insurance benefits. We also incorporate speech therapy for patients who have been diagnosed with head and neck cancer. This provides speech or swallowing exercises and education to address deficits in these abilities.

Lymphedema program

Our lymphedema program includes preventive services for post-surgical and post-radiology patients who are at high risk of developing lymphedema. Other services of this program include:

  • Bandaging and appropriate garment selection
  • Exercise and self-care instruction
  • Manual lymph drainage techniques
  • Manual therapy techniques for scar tissue
  • Patient education

What is lymphedema?

Lymphedema is chronic swelling in the arm, leg, chest or back due to accumulation of protein-rich fluid. This is the result of an obstruction of the venous or lymphatic systems. Left untreated, lymphedema can lead to limited mobility, decreased strength and decreased range of motion.
